A Brief Introduction

This page will serve as my personal website to talk about whatever interests me—typically history and politics, but also mathematics, philosophy, and computer science.

The main reason for creating this site is simple: I have things I want to say that are too long for Twitter posts!

I’m planning for my first post to be out in a few weeks, focusing on Alexis de Tocqueville’s Democracy in America, though I might get sidetracked again. I’m not the best with long-form writing, so it’s been a bit of a challenge.

The UI for this blog is forked from the-monospace-web. It’s a beautiful repo, but I plan to make some changes to the UI in the future. For now, it looks pretty good!

The Why (Actually Though)

I want to get better at long form writing. It’s honestly just that simple!

Well… not quite. Short form content quite literally wrecks people’s brains, especially mine. I’ve earnestly been trying for a while now to get off twitter, but it keeps sucking me back in. My main hope is that I can regain some of the attention span I lost over the past few weeks.

Of course, there’s stuff in it for you guys too! I’m going to try to post more informative, more fact-checked, and more thought provoking content on here.

Why Not Substack?

I want full control over my UI and what I post, and I’m not particularly interested in monetization. Eventually, I’ll add a Ko-fi link for anyone who wants to donate, but honestly, I don’t want any money for this—especially not right now. Everything here is personal!

Since I plan for the site to be static, it’s also incredibly cheap to host. I’ll only need to pay for the domain name (unless I somehow go viral, in which case I hope donations will cover the costs).

The main downside of posting here instead of Substack is discoverability, but I expect most of my audience to come from Twitter, so I’m not too concerned about that.

Conclusion

That’s really my thoughts for now, I hope I can actually follow through on this! If not, well, I guess I spent like 15 bucks for no reason.
